Prosecutor's Office supports recovery community during dodgeball tournament
Members of the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s showed their support for the recovery community during this year’s First Responders vs. Second Chancers dodgeball tournament sponsored by Drug Free Muskingum.
The event gives people in recovery and first responders the chance to unite for the same cause each year.
While the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office often makes headlines for prosecuting drug cases against drug dealers and those breaking the law while in addiction, the office shares a greater common goal to make the community safer by getting drugs off the streets and helping people achieve recovery.
“Bringing justice and contributing to the overall safety of our community is something our office is committed to both inside and outside of the office,” Prosecutor Ron Welch Said.
In the last year, the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office launched a pre-arrest diversion program otherwise known as DART (Diversion and Recovery Treatment) in order to intercept first-time drug offenders and rehabilitate them prior to establishing a felony record.
“It’s important that the community understands that our office stands against drug use but for recovery,” Diversion Coordinator Kasi Stewart. “Forming a dodgeball team is one way to show our dedication to recovery and spend the day supporting the cause among those putting in the work to change their lives.”
