Amy Otto

Assistant Prosecuting Attorney
Criminal Division

Originally from Iowa, Amy earned a B.A. in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Northern Iowa. She then obtained a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin and a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota, focusing on experimental social psychology. For several years, she worked as a college professor, teaching research methods and statistics while conducting experimental research on jury decision-making.

After a brief period as a researcher at Wright State University, Amy transitioned from researching the legal system to actually working that same system. She attended law school at Ohio State University, Moritz College of Law. While in law school, Amy completed an externship at the Federal Public Defender’s Office. This experience reinforced her commitment to a career in criminal law.

Amy graduated from law school in 2013 and was admitted to the Ohio Bar later that year. She is also licensed to practice in the Federal Courts for the Southern District of Ohio.

Following her graduation, Amy spent over a decade as a defense attorney, primarily focusing on felony cases in Muskingum, Pickaway, and Franklin Counties. Her experience in defense work led her to conclude that her passion for justice would be best fulfilled by joining the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office.

Amy joined the office in 2024 as an assistant prosecuting attorney assigned to the Felony Division.
