Blacklick Man Put Behind Bars for Vehicular Homicide

A 20-year-old Blacklick man found guilty of vehicular homicide by a Muskingum County Court of Common Pleas jury was sentenced to four and a half years in prison.

On March 25, Dustin D. Howington, 20, of Blacklick, appeared before Muskingum County Common Pleas judge Kelly Cottrill for sentencing.

Earlier this year, a Muskingum Court of Common Pleas jury found Howington guilty of committing vehicular homicide.

On August 19, 2023, Howington drove his van into oncoming traffic, hitting a motorcycle in the opposite lane and killing the other motorist, James Sanor of Lancaster.

Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Gerald Anderson says he hopes Howington will spend his time in prison reflecting on how his choices hurt Sanor’s family.

“I want to express my condolences to the family and friends of James Sanor, and also my appreciation for their strength and support in attending court and writing letters for the judge,” Anderson said. “The letter from Mr. Sanor's daughter was read in court, and she expressed the loss that she and her family have felt, as well as her hope that whatever time the defendant serves in prison will be spent reflecting of his choices and their consequences. I hope he does.”
