Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office competes in charity dodgeball tournament
The Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office showed its support for local recovery efforts by participating in Drug-Free Muskingum’s second annual charity dodgeball tournament.
The event, held on January 14, united more than a dozen teams of first responders, recovery organizations, and community members with the goal of raising money for drug addiction recovery services while having fun competing in the tournament.
Muskingum County Prosecuting Attorney Ron Welch, a corporate sponsor of the event and a member of the team representing the Prosecutor’s Office, says the tournament is a great way to help people in the community and promote public safety.
“Participating in this event gives our office the chance to see the positive impact recovery has on people who have struggled with drug addiction,” Prosecutor Welch said. “Hearing the stories of people who have turned or are turning the corner gives all of us a boost. It also emphasizes that drug dealers are predators who prey upon people who are in a vulnerable state. The more we can do to stop the drug dealers, the better it is for our community.”
Although the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office often makes headlines for prosecuting cases against drug dealers, it also seeks to make our community safer by getting drugs off the streets and help people make their lives better by beating addiction.
A vital part of this mission is the pre-arrest diversion program known as Diversion and Recovery Treatment (DART), which works with first-time drug offenders to rehabilitate and help them make better life decisions and habits.
DART Coordinator Kasi Stewart says the Prosecutor’s Office and area recovery organizations are working towards the same goals in the community.
“Everyone at our office is working toward the same goal in support of recovery, and this is a fun way to do it,” Stewart said “In the end, we are all on the same team when it comes to fighting addiction.”
