Roseville Pill Peddler Sent to Prison for Role in Drug Overdose Death

A Roseville man was sentenced to up to ten and a half years in prison for illegally providing prescription drugs to another individual, resulting in his overdose death.

Corey Klingler, age 25, of Roseville, appeared before Muskingum County Court of Common Pleas Judge Mark C. Fleegle for sentencing on February 28. Klingler received at least seven years in prison for the felony crime of corrupting another with drugs.

On the night of August 3, 2023, Klingler visited the home of another Roseville resident and provided him with oxycodone, which Klingler and the victim snorted. At some point that night, the victim fell unconscious and was later found dead by family members, on the following morning.

Klingler owed the victim a significant amount of money accrued from past marijuana purchases and would pay down the debt by providing him with oxycodone.

Assistant Prosecuting Attorney John Litle says the hard work of local law enforcement authorities is key to investigating overdose cases like Klingler’s.

“It takes a lot of work to investigate narcotics poisoning cases and we are lucky to have two agencies in the Sheriff and the police department, who work these cases aggressively,” Litle said. “This case had the added difficulty of a cause of death which was not solely attributable to the one specific drug dealer we caught.”

Prosecutor Welch says he’s thankful for the assistance of law enforcement officers in the fight against drug addiction in our community.

“Our office continues to prosecute cases caused by traffickers selling poison despite the many difficulties associated with such cases,” Prosecutor Welch said. “Our office is often confronted with uncooperative witnesses who are led to believe law enforcement is the enemy, when—in reality—law enforcement is trying to protect them and society. Law enforcement confronts the issues of addiction head on every day facing a variety of dangers from needles to firearms. Our office is very thankful for the role the officers have in making our community safer and hope the community appreciates them as well.”
