Michael T. Hughes

Assistant Prosecuting Attorney
Criminal Division

As 1992 graduate of Saint Charles in Columbus, Ohio I decided to attend Ohio Dominican University where I obtained a double major in Criminal Justice and Political Science. I next graduated Capital University Law School in 2000 and I began my career in 2001 at Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. I worked with juvenile delinquents as well as handled cases involving the removal of children from unfit parents. I prosecuted hundreds of juvenile delinquency cases and also tried the first SYO (Serious Youthful Offender) jury trial in domestic court in Franklin County. I continued to develop my skills within the office's Grand Jury Unit, where I worked closely with surrounding law enforcement agencies prior to presenting cases to the Grand Jury. I was also responsible for check, fraud and forgery cases during my time in the Grand Jury Unit. I next worked in the Narcotics Division and exclusively handled and prosecuted drug related cases. I then took on a general assortment of felony level case assignments before transferring into the Special Victims Unit where I enjoyed working with victims and helping to make a difference by prosecuting these especially difficult and often troubling crimes. With over 100 trials in my career I am happy to have joined the Muskingum County Prosecutor's Office in 2020.
