Appeals Judges Uphold Dresden Rapist’s Conviction

Judges on the Ohio Fifth District Court of Appeals affirmed the conviction of a Dresden man sentenced to life in prison for rape.

On September 6, judges on the Ohio Fifth District Court of Appeals rejected an appeal filed by Jason G. Newlon, 42, of Dresden.

Muskingum County Prosecuting Attorney Ron Welch says protecting children is a priority for the office.

“Our office is pleased with the decision from the Court of Appeals,” Prosecutor Welch said. “Our office invests a great amount of time and effort in protecting children. That hard work and effort resulted in a child rapist being sentenced to life in prison.”

In September 2023, Newlon was found guilty of 10 counts of gross sexual imposition, 18 counts of rape, and three counts of endangering children. Newlon was sentenced to life in prison.

In 2022, one of the victims told law enforcement about how Newlon repeatedly sexually abused her in the past. Investigators spoke with more victims of Newlon’s abuse, and he was found guilty by a jury.
