August Recognized as Child Support Awareness Month
August is Child Support Awareness Month, a time to recognize the important role financial and emotional support plays in helping children grow and thrive.
Child support helps provide for a child’s everyday needs, including food, housing, clothing, healthcare and education. More importantly, it reflects a shared commitment by parents to remain involved and contribute to their children’s well-being.
“Child support enforcement is about far more than collecting payments—it is about ensuring that children have the stability, security, and opportunities they deserve,” said Prosecutor Ron Welch. “To date, the Muskingum County Child Support Enforcement Agency has collected and distributed nearly $1 million to 27,000 residents for the benefit of children throughout our county. Its dedicated professionals are increasingly being recognized at the state level for improving efficiency and increasing collections. Their work strengthens families, holds parents accountable, and helps build a stronger Muskingum County.”
The Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office works alongside the Muskingum County Child Support Enforcement Agency (MCCSEA) to establish and enforce child support orders.
The Prosecutor’s Office, along with its criminal, civil, and appellate division, also has a child support division which when needed, legally assists the agency in enforcing child support for children in Muskingum County.
Although enforcement is sometimes necessary, the goal is always to encourage consistent support and secure the best possible outcome for the children involved.
Child Support Awareness Month also serves as a reminder that parents experiencing changes in employment, income or other circumstances should seek assistance before unpaid support begins to accumulate. Addressing those changes early can help parents remain engaged and fulfill their obligations.
This August, the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office recognizes the parents who consistently support their children and the child support professionals who work each day to ensure children receive the support they deserve.
