Chaison "Yak" Suber Pleads Guilty to Shooting in Drug House Case
On Friday, March 21, Chaison Suber, also known as "Yak," pleaded guilty to charges of felonious assault with a firearm and having a weapon while not allowed to own one. The charges come from a shooting that happened on January 24, 2025, at a known drug house on 1374 Wheeling Ave in Zanesville.
What Happened
At around 10:28 a.m. on January 24, Zanesville police officers, including Patrolman Miller, responded to a call about a medical emergency at the house. When they arrived, they found Ron “Hallboy” Hall in the living room with a gunshot wound to his lower left leg. Hall was taken to Genesis Hospital, where he had surgery for his injury.
Detective Chris Andrews led the investigation and quickly identified Suber as the suspect. Witnesses said that Suber and Hall had gotten into an argument before the shooting. Security footage from the house showed Suber arguing with Hall, pulling a gun from under a pillow, and firing a single shot at Hall. Afterward, Suber could be heard yelling at Hall.
Police later found the gun, a black Taurus 9mm with an extended magazine, hidden behind paneling in an upstairs bedroom.
How Police Caught Suber
After the shooting, Suber left the house and was picked up by a driver named Levency Reese at the Certified Gas Station on Greenwood Ave. Reese, who was working as a ride service driver, told police he dropped Suber off at 1116 Ridge Ave.
Later that day, Suber was caught while leaving that address in a BMW SUV driven by Michael Morrison. During the arrest, police found a loaded Sig handgun under the driver’s seat.
The Charges and Penalty
Suber’s guilty plea to felonious assault includes an extra three-year sentence because he used a gun during the crime. He also admitted to having a weapon illegally since he was already on supervised release from a federal drug case involving meth and fentanyl.
"We are grateful for the hard work of our officers and detectives," said Prosecutor Ron Welch. "This case shows that even if the victim was involved in criminal activity, Muskingum County law enforcement will work to bring justice and keep the community safe."
