Columbus Drug Dealer Sentenced to Six Years in Prison on Meth Charge
Elmer Wiley, 41, of Hilliard, OH, appeared in a Muskingum County Court this week to receive sentencing for a drug trafficking charge after a routine patrol recovered nearly 20 grams of methamphetamine in Wiley’s vehicle.
Wiley admitted guilt to aggravated possession of drugs, a felony of the second-degree, and received a prison sentence of six (6) years.
Case Details:
On Feb 24, 2023, a Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped Elmer Wiley for driving on a suspended license. During the stop Wiley allowed the officer to search the vehicle. During the search the deputy found a set of digital scales, a small spoon with white residue, and a clear knotted bag containing a white crystal substance.
The crystal substance recovered tested positive for methamphetamine with a weight of 19.89 grams.
Wiley, who has a criminal record that goes back nearly twenty years, was already on probation in Belmont County.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Warren Edwards, who handled the case, stated he was pleased to return Mr. Wiley to prison for longer than he had ever gone before.
“Some individuals do not want to be rehabilitated, what they want to do is commit crimes and not be punished,” said Prosecutor Ron Welch. “When that is the case the only way to ensure the community is protected from further crime is to put the person in prison.”
