DART Diversion Program Plays Key Role in Community’s Health and Safety

As part of its work to make the community safer and help people live healthy lives, the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office operates a pre-arrest diversion program, known as Diversion and Rehabilitation Treatment (DART).

In addition to counseling first-time drug offenders demonstrating a sincere wish to improve their lives, DART helps participants secure stable housing and reliable transportation, so they can obtain regular employment and meet their obligations as contributing members of society.

On February 15, DART program director Kasi Stewart joined the Healthier Muskingum County Network to educate the group about the diversion program and its role in improving the lives of people in the county. Organized by the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department, the Healthier Muskingum County Network is a group of representatives from local community agencies seeking to improve health, safety, education, employment, healthcare, and housing for everyone.

Stewart says DART plays an important role in the overall health and safety of the local community.

“DART is essential to our community as it meets each participant where they are and builds a case plan specific to their needs,” Stewart said. “DART goes beyond sobriety goals, by challenging each participant to be a law-abiding citizen.”
