FLOOD RECOVERY SCAM ALERT
“The recent flooding has caused tremendous damage and heartbreaking losses throughout our community. Families have been displaced, homes and property have been damaged, and many of our friends and neighbors are facing the difficult task of putting their lives back together. Our thoughts and prayers are with every person and family affected by this disaster.
Unfortunately, there are also criminals who view tragedy as an opportunity. While our community is coming together to help one another, scammers may try to take advantage of people who are vulnerable, overwhelmed, and trying to recover. Please slow down, ask questions, and verify who you are dealing with before giving anyone money or personal information. And please look out for elderly family members, friends, and neighbors who may be particularly vulnerable.
We cannot prevent every disaster, but by looking out for one another, we can help prevent criminals from turning someone’s tragedy into an opportunity for theft.
Anyone conducting a scam in Muskingum County to take advantage of those impacted by the floods can expect a harsh prison sentence.”
