Former Muskingum County Assistant Prosecutor Sworn in As Common Pleas Judge

A former Muskingum County assistant prosecutor is now the county’s newest Common Pleas judge.

On October 17, former Muskingum County Assistant Prosecutor Gerald Anderson was sworn in as a Court of Common Pleas judge. Anderson replaces former judge Mark C. Fleegle.

Judge Kelly Cottrill, Prosecuting Attorney Ron Welch, and Fleegle offered remarks before Anderson took his oath of office.

On October 8, Gov. Mike DeWine appointed Anderson to the position.

Anderson graduated from Brigham Young University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science.

Anderson attended Pepperdine School of Law in Malibu, California, and received his Juris Doctorate in 2014.

Anderson joined the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office in 2015, working as an assistant prosecuting attorney.

In the Prosecutor’s Office, Anderson handled misdemeanor cases, argued cases in the Court of Appeals, and prosecuted hundreds of felony cases, focusing on special-victims cases involving women and children.

Anderson lives in Zanesville with wife and four children.

He participated in the multi-disciplinary team at Brave Beginnings, which assists child victims of physical and sexual abuse.

Anderson regularly served as a guest speaker at local awareness events about topics such as domestic violence, drug overdose awareness, and sexual assaults.

Muskingum County Prosecuting Attorney Ron Welch says Anderson will be an excellent and fair judge.

“Gerald was an outstanding prosecutor, but I'm certain he will be an even better judge,” Prosecutor Welch said. “The community benefits from having someone with Gerald's characteristics on the bench. He is intelligent, hard-working, fair, and believes in justice for everyone.”
