Former Muskingum County Corrections Officer Sentenced to 16 Years in Prison
November 5, 2025, Bryan Catlin, 50, of Zanesville, appeared in the Muskingum County Court of Common Pleas before Judge Gerald Anderson to receive sentencing on charges that stem from an incident that took place earlier this year.
Catlin received sentencing for the following charges:
1. Kidnapping, a felony of the first degree
2. Domestic Violence, a misdemeanor of the first degree
3. Obstructing Official Business, a felony of the fifth degree with a Firearm Specification
4. Improperly Handling Firearms in a Motor Vehicle, a felony of the fifth degree
5. Using Weapons While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor of the first degree
After hearing from the State, the victim and the defendant himself, Judge Anderson imposed the maximum 16-year prison sentence on the charges. Upon release, Catlin will be required to register as a violent offender annually for ten years.
The victim appeared in court and read a prepared statement explaining details of the harm Catlin caused her over the course of their relationship. While she wished the defendant would have taken responsibility for the sexual assaults she endured, she did not wish to suffer the stress, trauma, and anxiety associated with testifying at a trial nor involve her children having to appear in court as witnesses.
Muskingum County Prosecutor Ron Welch commended the victim’s courage in coming forward. “Even when victims choose not to testify because of the deep pain caused by these crimes, their truth still matters,” Welch said. “Our office was involved with this courageous victim from the beginning and worked with her throughout the process to obtain the best result without subjecting her to additional trauma.”
