Mount Perry Man Convicted of Felonious Assault Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison

Zanesville, OH - On July 28, 2025, Robert “Bo” Bates appeared in the Muskingum County Common Pleas Court to receive sentencing for a charge that stems from Bates assaulting a woman.

Bates has a prior criminal conviction for Burglary, which was also in Muskingum County.

For his most recent offense, Bates pleaded guilty to Felonious Assault and was sentenced to a mandatory term of three (3) years in prison. The Court also imposed a mandatory 18 months on post release control (parole) once he is released.

On April 19, 2025, deputies arrived at Genesis Hospital where they met with a victim who reported that Bates assaulted her.

The victim reported that Bates, after a night of drinking and partying, arrived at her home. An argument broke out between the two and Bates threw a phone into the yard. As the victim began to leave Bates took her car keys and threw them at her face.

The impact of the keys hitting the victim’s face resulted in a 1.5-inch laceration to her lip as the key punctured through her mouth. Medical records confirm the laceration required five stitches.

The victim impact statement expressed hope that the defendant will use his time in prison to get the help he needs and become a better person.
