Muskingum County Assistant Prosecutor Appointed to Common Pleas Court

One of Muskingum County's assistant prosecutors is now the county’s newest Common Pleas judge.

On October 8, Gov. Mike DeWine appointed Muskingum County Assistant Prosecutor Gerald Anderson as a Muskingum County Court of Common Pleas judge.

Anderson will replace former judge Mark C. Fleegle.

Fleegle served from 1999 until his retirement in September 2023.

Anderson graduated from Brigham Young University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science.

Anderson attended Pepperdine School of Law in Malibu, California, and received his Juris Doctorate in 2014.

Anderson joined the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office in 2015, working as an assistant prosecuting attorney.

Anderson handled misdemeanor cases, argued cases in the court of appeals, and prosecuted hundreds of felony cases, focusing on special-victims cases involving women and children.

Anderson lives in Zanesville with wife and four children. He is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the local Republican Club.

He also participates in the multi-disciplinary team at Brave Beginnings, which assists child victims of physical and sexual abuse.

Anderson regularly serves as a guest speaker at local awareness events about topics such as domestic violence, drug overdose awareness, and sexual assaults.

Muskingum County Prosecuting Attorney Ron Welch says Anderson will be an excellent addition to the Court of Common Pleas

"Gerald’s appointment as Common Pleas Judge is well deserved,” Prosecutor Welch said. “His service as a prosecutor was outstanding and he has developed a fantastic reputation in the legal community. Gerald has the perfect combination of traits to be a judge; he is intelligent, hard-working, thoughtful, and compassionate.”

Prosecutor Welch says the office will miss Anderson, but he’s happy the community will have him as a judge.

“Gerald will be greatly missed by our office,” Prosecutor Welch said. “Our loss is the community’s gain.”
