Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office Donates Funds for South Zanesville Police Cruiser Upgrades

The Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office recently donated funds seized from criminal activities to help a local police department fight crime more effectively.

With money from the county’s Law Enforcement Trust Fund, a resource consisting of cash and property confiscated from criminals involved in drug-related crimes, the South Zanesville Police Department was able to purchase Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs) to be installed in their police cruisers.

The MDTs, also referred to as “toughbooks,” are used by officers to easily access and file information while in the field.

Thanks to the Prosecutor’s Office, the South Zanesville Police Department, led by Chief Mark Ross, was able to purchase more than $13,000 worth of toughbooks and hardware to mount the tablets within the cruisers.

Muskingum County Prosecuting Attorney Ron Welch says he’s honored to be able to help local law enforcement agencies protect the community.

“Helping law enforcement upgrade the equipment they need to protect us all is a great honor,” Prosecutor Welch said. “Mark Ross and the South Zanesville Police Department do an excellent job for their community with limited resources. Providing assistance from money seized from drug-related crimes eases the burden on taxpayers and hurts the drug trade making this a win-win situation.”
