Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office Joins Community in Walk to End Domestic Violence

(ZANESVILLE, OH)

Last week, the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office proudly joined Transitions for its annual Walk a Mile in My Shoes event, a community gathering dedicated to raising awareness and support for victims of domestic violence.

Transitions, based in Zanesville, serves as both an advocacy center and shelter for survivors. Each year, in collaboration with the Muskingum County Domestic Violence Coalition, the organization hosts the walk to inspire change and raise crucial funds for those impacted by abuse.

Victim Advocates Jessica Haug and Lea Ann Tignor from the Prosecutor’s Office—both active members of the Domestic Violence Coalition—play an integral role in organizing the event each year.

The walk brought together teams and individuals from across Zanesville and neighboring counties, circling the downtown courthouse in a single lap - awards were presented for Best Strut, Most Unique, and Best of Show.

In addition to the walk, the event honored local officers and community members whose service has made a lasting impact on victims of domestic violence.

This year’s gathering drew an inspiring turnout, with participants standing shoulder-to-shoulder to listen to Dorothy Thomas and spotlight speaker Danny Harper.

Harper’s testimony offered a glimpse into his own experience with domestic violence, the lasting effects of trauma, and his journey to break the cycle of abuse.

Muskingum County Prosecutor Ron Welch stated “Bringing awareness to the realities of domestic violence is vital to our mission as prosecutors — because justice begins with understanding. The more our community recognizes the signs of abuse and the courage it takes to come forward, the more effectively we can protect victims, hold offenders accountable, and break the cycle of violence.”
