Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office Provides $10,000 to Support Local Recovery Program for Women

This week, Muskingum County Prosecutor, Ron Welch, presented Recovery with a Purpose, operating under Foodworks Alliance, with a $10,000 check.

Recovery with a Purpose, established in 2020 and in partnership with Naomi House, is a community-based 12-week paid training program that helps women in recovery re-enter the workforce. The program hires two trainees at a time and offers them hands on kitchen skills and real-world work experience as they work to reclaim their lives in recovery.

The money provided to Foodworks allows for court sponsorship for Foodwork’s third annual Pickle fest event and sponsorship for Recovery with a Purpose’s two new kitchen trainees.

The check was presented to Amy Aurore, local food advocate and Executive Director of Foodworks Alliance.

Aurore highlighted that Foodworks, with the support of the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office, had a “healthy feeling of legitimacy after applying for grants and to be backed by an office that’s a pinnacle of the community gave them a realization that what they’re doing is working and if this entity sees that and is showing their support financially it must mean we aren’t the only ones who see that.”

The partnership between Foodworks and the Prosecutor’s office was brought to fruition with the help of Aurore and Kasi Stewart, the diversion coordinator for the prosecutor's diversion program, DART. The two further established a community partnership with individuals who participate in our office’s DART program and Recovery with a Purpose.

Aurore highlighted that it’s important for the community to know that the Recovery with a Purpose program is open to referrals from mental health professionals and providers of the like as applicants are required to have a referral source for their recovery to ensure their readiness to re-enter the workplace.

"Redirecting proceeds from drug forfeitures into programs like this is true restorative justice,” highlighted Muskingum County Prosecutor Ron Welch. “The $10,000 provided to FoodWorks Recovery with a Purpose is two-fold; investing in the women rebuilding their lives and providing support in prevention of drug related recidivism—providing the means to stay in treatment, learn a trade, and contribute positively to our community in Muskingum County.”
