Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office Provides $2,000 To Support Local Re-Entry Services

This month, Muskingum County Prosecutor, Ron Welch, presented Project Ready with a $2,000 check. Project Ready is a local organization serving Muskingum, Perry, and Morgan counties and aims to reduce recidivism. Recidivism occurs when a person who was previously incarcerated returns to the community and unfortunately re-offends.

Project Ready focuses on helping individuals who face challenges when re-entering society. They provide support to those dealing with issues like poverty, mental health, and substance abuse.

The Project Ready program enhances communication both before and after someone leaves jail or prison. They work closely with individuals to develop personalized re-entry plans. These plans include vital services like housing, employment, and, if necessary, treatment and therapy.

The money provided to Project Ready supports a community event that Project Ready, and the Re-Entry Coalition will host in July. Prosecutor Ron Welch stated “The money provided for this event comes straight from drug money; no taxpayer dollars are being used. Taking the money we have recovered from drug dealers and using it to help people who have been harmed by drugs is very rewarding.”

Kuwan Mayle, the event organizer, shared that the event aims to bring the community together. It also helps those re-entering feel welcomed. He noted how challenging it can be for these individuals to face segregation, and he organized the event to help ease this transition. Kuwan also pointed out that our local communities do not often host family-friendly events, especially free ones.

When asked about his experience with the prosecutor’s office, he expressed that it was positive and appreciated the office's willingness to sponsor this and future events.

Kuwan emphasized that support from the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s office shows that the Prosecutor’s Office not only wants to make the community a safer place but also help people when they get out (of jail or prison).

Event Details:

Join us for Fun Day on Saturday, July 12th, from 10 am to 4 pm. This event is free, and families are invited to attend. Project Ready is expecting between 200 to 400 attendees.

The event will feature two sections: one for adults and one for families. There will be a live DJ, a 40 ft inflatable obstacle course, several bounce houses (both wet and dry), and even human bumper balls.

Along with the fun activities, Project Ready and the Re-Entry Coalition will provide a complimentary meal of hamburgers or hot dogs. Randy’s BBQ will also be there with food available for purchase.

So far, 23 agencies have signed up to support the event, including the Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections Re-Entry Office, Zanesville Police Department, and Falls Township Fire Department.

Kuwan is still looking for more sponsors and attendees. If you would like to learn more or support this event, please contact Kuwan Mayle at (740) 647-9791.
