Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office Updates Public Data Dashboard to Increase Transparency and Community Awareness

(ZANESVILLE, OH)

The Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office is pleased to announce an update of its public-facing data dashboard, a tool designed to provide the community with greater insight into felony-level case activity within the county.

The dashboard serves as an informational resource, offering a view of felony indictments and related data trends beginning in 2025 and beyond. It is intended to enhance transparency and improve public understanding of how cases enter and move through the criminal justice system.

“This dashboard is about accessibility and awareness,” said Prosecutor Ron Welch. “We want the public to have a clearer picture of the types of cases being handled in our office, presented in a way that is easy to understand and grounded in data.”

The dashboard includes visualizations and summaries of key data points such as:

• Total felony indictments over time

• Offense types associated with indictments

• Demographic breakdowns, including age and gender

• Counts of felony and misdemeanor-level offenses tied to indictments

Importantly, the dashboard is not intended to evaluate outcomes or measure performance. Instead, it reflects a snapshot of cases at the point of indictment and is designed solely for informational and educational purposes.

The data presented is drawn from internal case management systems and is subject to certain limitations. Not all offenses may be fully captured due to the use of broad offense categories and the presence of multiple counts within a single case.

The update of the dashboard represents a continued effort by the Prosecutor’s Office to strengthen communication, support data-informed discussions, and foster trust through transparency. Providing clearer and more accurate information to the public is an ongoing goal of the Prosecutor’s Office.

“We believe informed communities are stronger communities,” Welch added. “This is one more way we can share information and engage with the public we serve.”

The dashboard is now live and accessible to the public on our website within the “Case Dashboard” link in the navigation menu.
