Traffic Stop Results in 30 Month Prison Sentence
(ZANESVILLE, OH)
On April 13, 2026, Robert H. Gillogly III, 49, appeared in the Muskingum Court of Common Pleas to be sentenced for charges from drugs that were recovered during a traffic stop.
Assistant Prosecutor Warren Edwards secured convictions in the case, when Gillogly pled guilty to the following charges: Aggravated Possession of Drugs a felony of the third degree, Attempted Tampering with Evidence a felony of the fourth degree, and Illegal Use or Possession of Drug Paraphernalia a misdemeanor of the fourth degree.
Judge Kelly Cottrill sentenced Gillogly to an agreed sentence of 30 months in prison out of a possible 36 months for the felony of the third degree.
Case Details:
In August of 2025 a traffic stop was made after a driver failed to use a turn signal. The deputy identified the driver as Robert Gillogly. Gillogly stepped out of the vehicle and the deputy observed what would later be confirmed as methamphetamine, scattered over the driver’s seat and driver’s floorboard. The deputy collected the meth as well as a digital scale and a torn yellow bag on the driver's floorboard.
Gillogly admitted to the deputy tearing the bag and dumping the meth onto the seat and floorboard during the traffic stop. Gillogly also admitted that the scales belong to him.
The meth returned with a weight of 3.48 grams.
This defendant has been to prison over a half a dozen times dating back 20 years. His crimes include multiple OVIs, Failure to Comply, Assault on a Police Officer, and possession of methamphetamine.
