Zanesville Domestic Abuser Caught on Home Video Pleads Guilty

A Zanesville man appeared in Muskingum County Court of Common Pleas, admitting his guilt to acts of domestic violence.

Appearing before Common Pleas Judge Mark C. Fleegle on July 15, Gunner D. Lent, age 18, of Zanesville, pleaded guilty to one count of felony strangulation, one count of felony abduction, and one count of misdemeanor domestic violence.

Judge Fleegle sentenced Lent to serve 14 months in prison.

Beginning on March 7, Lent and the victim got into several arguments after drinking alcohol. Lent struck the victim and grabbed her by the throat, restricting her breathing. Lent also pinned the victim down.

On March 9, Lent and the victim had another argument that ended in domestic violence. During the argument, Lent unplugged a home security camera recording in the home’s interior and struck the victim.

Lent left the home, and the victim called law enforcement. The victim provided investigators with video footage of Lent striking and holding her down to the floor.

Muskingum County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney John C. Dever says too many cases of domestic violence go unreported in our community.

“While this domestic violence was caught on video, too many times domestic violence goes unseen and reported,” Dever said. “Reporting ensures that violent offenders like Lent face real consequences. The prison sentence here adequately reflects the violence of Lent's actions while considering his young age.”
