Zanesville Man Sentenced 10 1/2 Years in Prison for Strangling Victim

On April 9, 2025, Jesse Beach, 29, appeared before Judge Anderson in the Muskingum County Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to one count of strangulation and one count of burglary.

The charges against Beach stem from a domestic violence dispute in which he strangled his victim three times within a span of 15 minutes.

Case Details:

On January 1, 2025, at approximately 5:03 PM, Zanesville Police Department Patrol Officer Kinas was dispatched in response to a call regarding a domestic dispute at a residence in Zanesville.

During the call, the victim informed Officer Kinas that Jesse Beach was beating her. The victim explained that the most recent incident occurred after she confronted Beach about a plastic bag she discovered in the bathroom. Concerned about Beach's history of drug abuse, she asked if he had relapsed.

Following this confrontation, Beach became physically violent. He placed his hand around her neck, restricting her breathing to the point she almost blacked out. He then slammed her to the ground, releasing her only after she hit the floor.

When the victim stood up, Beach yelled aggressively at her. Shortly after, he grabbed her from behind, placing her into a chokehold and covering her mouth. He eventually released her, and she attempted to calm him down.

Instead, Beach grabbed her by the throat for a third time, slamming her against the wall and threatening to have someone kill her if she called the police.

Once she was released, the victim managed to calm Beach enough that she could leave the home. She went to a friend's house to share what had happened. Believing Beach had left, the victim and her friend returned to check the safety of the home.

Upon arrival, the victim checked her bedroom and discovered Beach hiding behind the door. He grabbed her and tried to close the door, but she yelled for her friend, who intervened just in time. Beach then released the victim and instructed her friend to leave; when the friend refused, Beach left.

During her call to the police, the victim informed officers that Beach was on parole. Officer Kinas contacted adult parole, and due to the ankle monitor he was wearing, they quickly located and arrested him.

Beach pleaded guilty to one count of strangulation, receiving a maximum sentence of 36 months. He also pleaded to one count of burglary, resulting in a mandatory sentence of 7 years, with a possibility of up to 10 ½ years in prison.

At the time of the strangulation, Jesse Beach was serving a three-year term of post-release control, which began on August 15, 2024. This term was a result of a six-year prison sentence for a previous robbery conviction.

Assistant Prosecutor Amy Otto argued that Beach's violation of the conditions of his post-release control should be considered during sentencing. The Court agreed, adding the remaining time of Beach’s three-year post-release control term to his sentence.
