Zanesville Man Sentenced to 8 Years for Child Sexual Abuse Materials

ZANESVILLE, OH – Brett Roosa, 32, of Zanesville, has been sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to sharing child sexual abuse materials online. His sentencing follows an investigation by the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), which began after a cyber tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force. Authorities say they received the tip on December 17, 2024, after the Kik messaging app reported that Roosa had uploaded illegal material. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) confirmed that three images and three videos were uploaded on August 8, 2024, from a home on Roper Avenue.

The next day, MCSO officers, including Detective Morton and Deputy Finley, executed a search warrant at the address. A search of the phone found numerous illegal images and videos involving children.

Roosa agreed to serve the maximum sentence of eight years in prison for the charge of pandering obscenity involving a minor. In exchange, prosecutors dismissed the remaining charges. Muskingum County Prosecutor Ron Welch emphasized the seriousness of the crime. “Uploading child sexual abuse materials harms victims again and again.” “Our office pursues and consistently obtains some of the harshest sentences of any county in our State for these crimes.” Welch concluded by saying “Plea agreements are rarely perfect, but the outcome of this case prevented numerous young children from having to testify in court about being sexually abused and that is an important factor to everyone that understands these cases.”

Once released, Roosa will be required to register as a sex offender every 180 days for the next 25 years.
