Tom McCarty is an experienced and versatile prosecutor, having tried numerous cases ranging from minor misdemeanor traffic infractions to first degree felony sexual assaults. Tom is licensed to practice in the State Courts of Ohio as well as the United States District Court Southern District of Ohio. Tom has received advanced training in several areas of practice, with a focus on interviewing and preparing children for court. Tom has also been asked to speak at numerous schools and religious organizations regarding the dangers of social media and sexting.

Tom is a product of Muskingum County, Ohio, where he attended Tri-Valley High School. Upon graduation, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration with double minors in Management and Economics from Marshall University. Ultimately, Tom completed his education with a Juris Doctor from Western Michigan University.

Prior to joining the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office in 2014, Tom operated his own private practice, first focusing on consumer bankruptcy and other civil matters before transitioning over to criminal law. Also active in the community, Tom and his family are members of Zanesville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church; while Tom is also an active member of multiple organizations including: The Muskingum County Bar Association; The Ohio State Bar Association; The National District Attorneys Association; The Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association; The Fraternal Order of Police; and The Muskingum County Republican Club Policy Committee.

In his spare time, Tom enjoys spending time with his family of six; usually at a softball diamond, basketball court, volleyball court, soccer field, dance recital or scouting event, and often many in the same weekend. Tom is also the manager of a highly successful fantasy baseball team, and is occasionally afforded the opportunity to play a round of golf. Tom is proud to call Muskingum County home, and is happy to serve his community.
